Katherine is a Melbourne-based composer of music that is stylistically thematic and emotive. Her work draws inspiration from nature, visual art and literature. In 2014 - 2015 she collaborated with author Ailsa Wild and illustrator Simon Howe as composer, producer, concert curator and publisher for Anthea's Garden the illustrated children's book with music. She was artist in residence 2017 for Wesley College Melbourne where Anthea's Garden was featured in performance and was the subject for a series of music workshops.
Katherine founded the Linus Ensemble in 2016 to build community and support local composers, performers and artists in the northern suburbs of Melbourne. Her music has been performed/commissioned in Australia, France, Canada, Germany, Singapore, New Zealand and U.K. by numerous performers including: Trio Anima Mundi, Linus Ensemble, Collision Theory, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and The Zelman Memorial Symphony Orchestra.
Katherine has been a guest speaker at the University of Melbourne and Monash University and has studied with some of the most accomplished composers in Australia. She won the Dorian Le Gallienne Composition Award 2003, holds a Bachelor of Music from the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, a Master of Music from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and her works are sold and distributed nationally and internationally through www.katherinerawlings.com and the Australian Music Centre.
