Product details

The saxophone as you've never heard it before: award-winning composer and performer Katia Beaugeais takes us into new sonic territory with this exciting and intriguing digital album, featuring music written especially for her unique talents.

To create this extraordinary and beautiful album, Katia invited four outstanding Australian composers, Katy Abbott, Anne Boyd, Rosalind Page and Bruce Crossman, to join her in experimenting with the full sound palette of the instrument: 'My brief to each composer was to not hold back!' Using a range of extended techniques - air wind sounds, flutter-tongue, paint brush tongue stroke articulation, multiphonics (playing two or more notes at once), quarter-tone trills, slap-tonguing (a percussive drum-like effect) and circular breathing - they show us new and unexpected sides to the instrument's famously smooth and sensuous voice.

These extended performance techniques, says Katia, transport both performer and audience to another place. 'When I circular breathe I forget where I am, as I am completely immersed within the sounds of my saxophone.'
