Event Details
During National Science Week, the Griffyn Ensemble will be putting their green thumbs to use within the leafy setting of the Royal Botanic Gardens with an interactive concert inspired by trees and earth. The concert will showcase the world premiere of Griffyn director Michael Sollis's City of Trees Suite, made up of music written for the Canberra Centenary's City of Trees project.
Featuring Griffyn's unique instrumentation in combination with pre-recorded sounds of bugs and beetles, the concert will include music by Australian composers Martin Wesley Smith and Cold Chisel. We'll be featuring 'garden music' from Chile by Juan Orrego-Salas, and the tremors of San Andreas faultline by American composer Ursula Mamlok. We'll also be continuing our Swedish musical exchange with works by some of Sweden's top composers - Henrik Strindberg, Jenny Hettne, and Frederik Högberg.
Featured non-Australian music: Juan Orrego Salas - Ursula Mamlok - Kaija Saariaho - Jenny Hettne - Henrik Strindberg - Frederik Hogberg
