Event Details
The musicians of the SSO are heading to Carriageworks with Chief Conductor David Robertson for a concert of new music and contemporary inspiration.
Lisa Illean describes herself as 'a composer with a great love of the ocean' and the music she's writing for the first concert in our new Carriageworks series will be true to form. It forms the centre of a program that's all about the environment and transition. It begins with Pastoral Symphony by SSO Artist in Residence Brett Dean. This music follows the lead of Beethoven's Pastoral but in a world where forests are fed to wood chippers and the urban landscape encroaches on the natural one. Subtle, visionary music by Gérard Grisey from the 1990s uses texts by Guez-Ricord to play out in turn the deaths of the angel, civilisation, the voice and humanity
Featured non-Australian music: Grisey
