Opening Gala : Port Fairy Spring Music Festival 2018
For our opening Gala, we are joined by one of the great voices of Australia and the world – Lior. After premièring to great critical and audience acclaim at the 2018 Adelaide Festival, Lior shares for only the 2nd time the chamber version of his and Nigel Westlake’s contemporary masterwork Compassion. Weaving Hebrew and Arabic texts together in a work of musical and spiritual complexity, Lior’s transcendent voice summons worlds of hope and understanding. The Gala opens with Festival favourite Zoë Black combining her two great loves – dancing and the violin, in a newly commissioned work for dancing violinist by her longtime collaborator Joe Chindamo.
