Work Details
Year: 1998, this version: 2011
Instrumentation: 2 mandolins, mandola, guitar, mandocello (optional), double bass.
Duration: 4 min.
Difficulty: Medium
First performance: 29 Jul 12. Blessed Sacrament Church, Mosman, NSW Australia.
The composer also comments:
Baroque 2-Part Invention where the main theme is a groove in the guitars.
This is a re-working for Mandolin Orchestra of the original piece of the same name, which was composed for The Volatinsky Trio and recorded on their CD "Troika". It has also been re-worked for 2 mandolins & guitar as "Trio Campanella".
It has the character and melodic ideas of the Baroque form of the same name, but the main musical idea drives the piece through more of a riff treatment in the guitars, around which the other instruments weave their lines.
