Work Overview
O Sacrum Convivium was written in 2003 for the choir of All Saints Wickham Terrace. Subsequent to this, the mass setting written in companion with the piece was awarded the 2003 University of Queensland Percy Brier award.
The approach used in this piece is a similar one to my Requiem Lux Aeternam, whereby the ancient O Sacrum Convivium plainsong melody from the Liber Usualis is presented verbatim within a musical texture akin to 16th century polyphony, yet with a more recent approach to harmonic language inspired by jazz and use of extended chords.
