Fearless dreams : for clarinet, cello and piano / Diana Blom.
Library shelf no. 785.2413/BLO 1 [Not for loan]
Work Overview
Fearless Dreams was written for Sydney trio, Charisma - clarinet, cello and piano - who gave the first performance in Sydney in October, 2011. The work explores the sonorities and textures of this ensemble and references a piece for clarinet and piano, Painajainen (Nightmare), by Finnish composer Kari Tikka, which I had performed in Sydney with American clarinettist, Gregory Barrett. The strength and simplicity of Tikka's short work had stayed with me and crept into a section of the music. The title, Fearless Dreams, was taken from a talk by indigenous Australian writer, Alexis Wright, and my trio references some small fragments of Aboriginal musics. The stages of sleep and dreaming acted as an initial guide for the structure of the work.
