Preludes XI and XII are paired: a kind of war and peace conclusion to a cycle that has in many ways acted as a musical diary, recording my reflections on this strange period of history. Prelude XI opens with stealthy clusters that blossom into a rumbling march. As the march rises into the piano's mid and upper registers, the conflict escalates, ending with a barrage of musical missiles that envelop the instrument, shattering any illusion of resolution.
