Cradles is a lullaby, to help put treasured analogue musical equipment to bed. The work takes its inspiration from the sensuous, tactile relationship between a performer and his or her instrument.
Instrumentation: 2 reel-to-reel tape machines, spliced audio tape, bells (suspended), finger cymbals, various assorted shakers, castanets, Japanese toy drums, various assorted chimes (shells, wood, goats' toes nails, light bulbs, light metal etc.) (suspended), glockenspiel/glockenspiel bars, stereo PA, keyboard (electric piano and/or transistor organ), OR playback (combinations of analogue playback: reel to reel tape machines, record players etc.).
Duration: 10 min.
First performance: at Speak Percussion at Berliner Festspiele (Haus der Berliner Festspiele) on 16 Mar 2013
