Angelus ad virginem / Fiona Loader ; 14th century text based on Luke 1: 26-38.
Library shelf no. 782.5525/LOA 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
This work is based on a forteenth century Latin text which summarises the story of the angel Gabriel telling the virgin Mary that she would conceive the son of God and bear him to cure the sins of the world (Luke 1:26-38).
The musical treatment is modal in flavour. The choral parts receive a different treatment in each verse based on a straightforward melody mainly based in the dorian mode. The organ plays an important part and provides a climatic accompaniment particularly in the last verse.
