The Answer is in the Sun : concert aria from 'Tesla, Lightning in His Hand'

by Marianne Fisher and Constantine Koukias (2003)

Work Overview

This Concert Aria has been adapted from my opera Tesla - Lightning in His Hand about the life and work of Nicola Tesla, a Serbian American engineer and inventor (1856 - 1943).

Tesla's work fell into relative obscurity following his death, until 1960, when the General Conference on Weights and Measures named the SI unit of magnetic flux density the tesla in his honour. There has been a resurgence in popular interest in Tesla since the 1990's.

This Aria is from Act 1, it is while watching a sunset that Tesla recalls the words from Goethe's Faust

Sie rückt und weichtertag ist uber lebt

Dort eilt sie hin und fordert neues leben

Tesla now finally sees the solution to the creating Alternating Current.
