Work Overview

Noise Husbandry is an electroacoustic work commissioned for the new "Action Stations" permanent exhibition at the Australian National Maritime Museum. Evocative of life at sea, its movements weave eclectic styles as outlined in the collaboration with ANMM ... fusing industrial sounds with cinematic thematic work, playlists from popular music of the time the vessels served with confronting new music, soundscape with motif and theme...

The result of a two-year collaboration with the museum and teams outside the museum (MOD Prods, famous for ACO Virtual, did the interactive programming, narrative, and visual design, and Ensemble Offspring performed the recordings and premiered the concert version), Humberstone documented the compositional process on this specially created timeline website, great for students studying recent Australian music.

While some of the music is challenging or requires knowledge of synthesis to perform, much of it is very approachable and could easily be performed by players of an intermediate standard.
