Tango Preludio, after a theme by F.Chopin : for violin and piano

by Joe Chindamo (2009, this version: 2012)

Work Overview

Although the melody of Tango Preludio is reminiscent of Chopin's Prelude in E min (a tune which has served many a composer well, including Antonio Carlos Jobim, who based his How Insensitive on it), the treatment is undoubtedly South American. One is tempted to compare it with Piazzolla's work, and this would be correct to a point. But whilst the rhythmic essence is pure Tango, the inherent harmonic language is aligned with the more sophisticated world of the impressionist composers, such as Debussy and Ravel.
