Work Overview
This work was commissioned by the Classical Guitar Society, Sydney, in memory of the late luthier Graham Caldersmith, with funding donated by his lifelong partner Angela MacPherson. In writing this I tried to imbue the music with a sense of the natural world and referenced the wonderful trees in Victoria's High Country. Graham loved the "bush", he was also an avid reciter of many a bawdy "Bush Ballad". I'm sure he would have spun a great story about the subject of the final movement, Harry Power, 'the gentleman bush ranger'.
The work is scored for a large ensemble of standard classical guitars and makes use of Treble, Baritone and Acoustic Bass guitars if these are available. The work can also be played by all standard guitars with an electric bass.
