Work Overview

One impetus for composing the work was the arrival of the so-called "Green Comet", C/2022 E3 (ZTF) in Australian skies, February of this year. This celestial visitor from the Stone Age last appear in our skies 50,000 years ago and it made me think about its journey and about the concept that an arrival is always followed by a departure.

Portals are doorways through which we depart (and arrive), Revolving Doors can allow us to go through or quickly return us to our point of departure, and Comets, our most mysterious of visitors, can take many thousands of years to return. Music, likewise is a series of arrivals and departures, taking us on a melodic or harmonic journey.
