Whispers and cries : for choir, percussion quartet, and keyboards / Andrew Byrne.
Library shelf no. 782.5547/BYR 1 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
Whispers and Cries is conceived as part cantata, part ritual theatre. In this piece, there is no text; instead the singers' vocalisations suggest a kind of strange folk music or ancient incantation.
The music material comprises simple repeating patterns that can be easily memorised, and it is recommended that singers (and musicians whenever possible) perform without the score. Liberated from the score, the performers are free to move around the space using movement to mirror developments in the music.
