Work Overview
After reading the novel Confessions (Jo Confesso) in 2016, I could not stop thinking about it for weeks. The effects of the book on me were profound. I knew I had to write an orchestral piece of music based on it. But it was not until I saw Jacob Cordover play a solo guitar concert in Canberra that I had the idea of writing a book-concerto, where Jacob 'plays' the novel's main character Adria.
In 2018 Jacob and I met with Jaume Cabré, the multi-award winning international million-copy selling Catalonian author, and his literary agent Gloria Gutiérrez at Agencia Carmen Balcells in Barcelona, where I was granted a permission to turn this novel into music.
This concerto musically recreates each of the 7 chapters of the book and presents the audience a new way to feel the novel's profound story of love revolving around a priceless violin.
While the protagonist Adria is portrayed by the guitar, the other main characters are represented in this piece by the instruments of the orchestra - they interrelate to each other according to the complex plots of this literary masterpiece.

A book-concerto based on the novel Confessions (Jo Confesso) by the celebrated Catalonian literary master Jaume Cabré, to be premiered in 2021 by the Barcelona-based Australian guitar virtuoso Jacob Cordover.
To Jaume Cabré, the author of 'Confessions', on whose novel this work is based, with permission and in close collaboration with the author. The guitar part especially written for Jacob Cordover, without whose help the world premiere in Barcelona would not be possible.
