Product details

Seventh Song is a lyrical slow tempo jazz piano trio piece in D natural (aeolian) minor. After a D minor chordal section played on piano the double bass player begins a repeating three bar ostinato on octave D pitches, supported by drum rhythms. (N.B. the bass player should tune the lowest string down to D for this piece).

The piano melody phrases are intended to 'float' over this foundation.

After a repeat of the melody the trio begins to improvise together as an ensemble, developing ideas based on the 'group mind.' There is no return to the melody, rather the trio improvises a way for the piece to finish.

Published by: Australian Music Centre — 1 set of 3 performance parts (6p. -- A4 (portrait))

Difficulty: Easy — The piano part is a straightforward single note melody line with some rhythmic displacement. The double bass part features a repeating ostinato pattern. The drum part is open. Improvisation is group focused.
