Product details

Past engages with present, and present with past, in a brilliant recording from the Flinders Quartet and recorder virtuoso Genevieve Lacey.

In Reinventions, Elena Kats-Chernin and Calvin Bowman present music by JS Bach and Mozart in vivid new imaginings, using the structures and melodies of the originals as a springboard for works of a huge variety of colours and sounds.

The disc opens with Kats-Chernin's take on six of Bach's most famous works, the Inventions - originally scored for keyboard. Lacey plays a number of different recorders, drawing out different colours in each Invention, from the playful, light-hearted Re-invention No.1 to the mellow second, and the virtuosic sixth.

Calvin Bowman presents arrangements of two Bach chorales, and a 'Homage to Mozart' - an assemblage of Mozartian language as seen from the 21st century alongside direct quotations from the Classical composer.

The album is completed with performances of two Mozart flute quartets, performed here by Lacey's sweet-toned recorder and the ever-dynamic Flinders Quartet.

Duration: 74 min.

Includes programme notes and biographical information about performers.
