Product details

Epiphany brings together four of Australia's leading composers in an album of new works composed for Ensemble Liaison, showcasing the range of colours and emotion, the virtuosic brilliance, and with the beauty of sound that is possible with this ensemble.

Elena Kats-Chernin's Ballade is a lyrical and sometime stirring work that takes inspiration from Monteverdi, Bach and Chopin. Aus tiefer Not by Ian Munro pays homage to J.S. Bach, using one of Bach's choral settings to reflect on his own thoughts and experiences. Michael Dooley's Epiphany, the title work on the album, tells the story of the composer's spiritual quest from childhood to early adulthood, in four movements: The River, The Box, The Abyss and The Awakening. Angelus by Mary Finsterer is inspired by the painting of the same name by French painter Jean François Millet. It portrays a simple peasant couple with their heads bowed in prayer, the music paying homage to this humble yet profound moment.
