Sheet Music: Score & Part(s)Duet for Cello and Piano / May Lyon.by May Lyon (2019)
|
Product details
Duet for Cello and Piano is based around several themes and the idea of limitations. Each movement has a different limitation until later in the third movement where the cello finally breaks free and both instruments move into the flowing and limitless fourth.
I: Restricted by the pitch of the themes, so that only certain pitches appear either in sequence or as a chord.
II: Combines several themes at the extremes of range, in a fast paced, detached, and repetitive form that then becomes increasingly restricted in range.
III: Expansive, varying the main themes used earlier. Although the piano is restricted to the same patterns, the cello becomes increasingly expressive.
IV: Presents the only true melody, which has been hinted to earlier in the piece. Both instruments play romantically and become progressively higher, eventually floating away in a semi-improvised finale.
