Event Details
Following the sell-out success of Through the Looking Glass, Victorian Opera continues to champion the creation of new Australian work with its second commission, Rembrandt's Wife. Andrew Ford's music having been performed regularly throughout Australia and in over 40 countries world-wide. He teams with one of Australia's finest television writers, Sue Smith, whose screen credits include The Bastard Boys, The Leaving of Liverpool, Brides of Christ, The Road from Coorain, and Fallen Angels.
Rembrandt's Wife is a compelling story that explores the tragic relationships of one of the world's greatest painters: the death of his beloved wife Saskia, the madness of his lover Geertje and the haunting visions of his muse to be, Hendrijke. A chamber opera, this work will reflect in words and music the light and colour that are the hallmarks of Rembrandt's style.
