Event Details

100th Anniversary of Katoomba’s Lottie Lyell’s THE SENTIMENTAL BLOKE, Australia’s greatest silent movie.

THE VOLANTINSKY QUARTET will accompany the film, with their score written especially for this year’s 100th anniversary. Their performance is laced with the flavours of Russia, the Balkans, and some quirky Australian classics.

Truly an unforgettable musical & cinematic experience.

Lottie Lyell directed her movie BLUE MOUNTAINS MYSTERY in and around Katoomba’s Carrington Hotel.

Known as Australia’s First International Movie-Star, she moved her production company - at the peak of her career - to Katoomba, to secretly convalesce her Tuberculosis. With her lifetime lover, Raymond Longford, she produced dozens of films - as actress, director, writer, even did her own stunts.

Alas, Lottie died of the killer TB at the age of 35.

THE SENTIMENTAL BLOKE

Australian Film Producer, Bill Leimbach, will introduce the story behind the 1919 Film, adapted from the C.J. Dennis much-loved poem
