Sensational soloist Alban Gerhardt brings energy and insight to Shostakovich’s powerful and moving Cello Concerto No 1. Passions run high in Beethoven’s Leonore overture and Brett Dean’s moving tribute to Beethoven, Testament, while Prokofiev’s Classical symphony introduces a lighter mood with its rollicking good humour and high spirits.
