Seraphim Trio welcomes New York-based soprano Jane Sheldon for a moving program of Andrew Ford's stunning new song cycle Last Words, alongside Beethoven's Piano Trio in G Major from his very first published opus and Brahms's much-loved first piano trio in B Major.
Andrew Ford's Last Words is a moving and dramatic musical setting of the final words of real and historical characters. Last Words uses texts from many different sources - some are final utterances (Goethe, Berg, Dickinson), some are final poems (Bronte, Porter) and others are letters to loved ones including Virgina Woolf's haunting and beautiful farewell letter to her husband. Last Words was commissioned by Jane Sheldon, with assistance from the Music Board of the Australia Council for the Arts. Ford has dedicated the song cycle to Sheldon and to the members of the Seraphim Trio. Last Words will tour to Adelaide, Ballarat, Melbourne and Sydney in late March.
Performers: Anna Goldsworthy, Helen Ayres, Tim Nankervis, Jane Sheldon
Featured non-Australian music: BEETHOVEN Piano Trio in G Major, Op 1 No 2; BRAHMS Piano Trio in B Major Op 8 No 1
