Event Details

This concert has been postponed due to Covid-19, with a new date to be announced.

A finely tuned partnership between four great players, MGQ is beloved for its innovative arrangements, technical flair and superb ensemble playing. The band performs on the rare guitar ‘family’ of instruments (classical bass, baritone, standard, treble and octave guitars), a dynamic instrumentation that reveals the vivid world of guitar like you’ve never heard before.

About this concert

Celebrating over 15 years together, Melbourne Guitar Quartet (MGQ) revives some of its favourite works from around the world. In signature fashion, MGQ’s inspired guitar arrangements transform Rameau’s elegant keyboard music and Albéniz’s haunting Córdoba. These brilliant pieces set the stage for Nigel Westlake’s Winter in the Forgotten Valley, a hypnotic work inspired by the unique sounds of the Australian landscape. This globetrotting fiesta through France, Spain and our own backyard highlights the adventurous spirit that has defined the Quartet’s performances for well over a decade.
