Event Details

International guests join our very own Synergy Percussion and didjeridu legend William Barton, to create an original event especially for our unique in-the-round Studio venue. Featuring Edgard Varèse’s rarely-heard masterpiece for thirteen virtuoso percussionists, Ionisation, this concert will launch the YouTube Symphony Orchestra 2011 week at Sydney Opera House and present some of the winning musicians for their first performance.

Synergy Percussion has been one of Australia’s foremost contemporary music ensembles for 35 years, with a reputation for thrilling and innovative performance. Consisting of Australia’s best percussionists, Synergy performs everything from jazz and electronica to Japanese taiko drums.

William Barton is one of Australia’s leading didjeridu players and composers and is a powerful advocate for the wider perception of his cultural traditions. He has performed with the world’s great orchestras and was commissioned by the Berliner Philharmoniker to compose a work for their 2010 Australian Tour.

This concert will be filmed.

Featured non-Australian music: Varese; Takemitsu; Rouse
