Event Details
This concert is a banquet of musical colours and flavours, making full use of the joyous contrasts provided by all the different Festival wind players, grounded in piano and strings. Tansman and Martinu almost certainly crossed paths in the musically vibrant Paris of the early 20th century; Britten’s youthful Sinfonietta blends rhapsodic beauty with rhythmic invention. Ligeti’s Bagatelles show the composer at his most playful, making a happy contrast with Glière’s songful Duos. Works by Fitkin and Westlake make delightful companion pieces, their composers respected and popular members of today’s musical pantheon.
