Event Details

This year’s MODART - a gathering of seven emerging composers and The Song Company's six ever-surprising vocalists under the watchful eye of Roland Peelman - will be held at Cockatoo Island in Sydney Harbour at the beginning of October. The MODART initiative, started in 2003 by The Song Company and the Australian Music Centre, has grown in stature and served as a model for emerging composers’ programs around the nation.

This year's seven composers are Leah Barclay (Brisbane), Tristan Coelho (Sydney), Demian Galindo (Mexico), Annie Hsieh (Melbourne), Ekrem Mülayim (Sydney/Istanbul), Timothy Tate (Brisbane) and Alex Van den Broeck (Christchurch, New Zealand).

The two concerts on 1 and 2 October are a culmination of the program which began with initial workshops in May.

Ferry times to the island can be found at: http://www.cockatooisland.gov.au/visit/ferries.html

Pack the picnic and BYO. Join us for an afternoon of new vocal music by some of the country’s finest young composers. Rich with Australian history, arrive early and explore the island before the concert.
