Event Details
Kristian Chong returns for a provoking program culminating in one of the greatest Schubert piano sonatas – D784 – a profound and obsessively tragic work, written after Schubert found out about the disease that would eventually take him. Opening the concert is the key of D major; a transcription of a movement of a Bach violin sonata, a Rachmaninoff Prelude, and a Prelude by Calvin Bowman, commissioned by Kristian Chong, and premiered earlier in 2021 at the Melbourne Recital Centre, and to take us to Schubert’s pain, who better than Mozart in his dark and brooding Fantasie.
Featured non-Australian music: Schubert, Rachmaninov
