Event Details

Matt Withers is an ambassador for Australian music, a well-established classical guitar pedagogue, performer and role model for musicians across the country.

His career to date has seen him perform with highly esteemed artists of the likes of William Barton, Sally Whitwell, the Carl Pini Quartet, many national orchestras as well as maintaining strong commitments in the leading Australian chamber music groups Guitar Trek alongside Timothy Kain, AM and with Dr Bradley Kunda in The Brew Guitar Duo (some of you may recall seeing Brew Duo perform at our 2016 festival!).

The Acacia Quartet have won great respect for their versatile and inventive programs which couple established repertoire with the unorthodox. Acacia has recorded six albums – three of which earned nominations for an ARIA Award for ‘Best Classical Album’ and an APRA-AMCOS Art Music ‘Award for Excellence’. Their CD recordings ‘Blue Silence’, the complete works for string quartet by Elena Kats-Chernin, and ‘An AIDS Activist’s Memoir in Music’, by Lyle Chan, have both received ‘Editor’s Choice’ in Limelight Magazine.

Matt will be teaming up with the illustrious Acacia Quartet to present a Saturday twilight recital at our festival, featuring works by Robert Davidson, Phil Houghton, a new commission by Richard Charlton plus the winning works from the 2018 Matt Withers Australian Music Composition Competition.

Chamber music at its finest!
