Event Details
This program opens with one of the greatest works by Schubert composed at the age of 30. Ernest Hutcheson (1871-1951) was the first great Australian pianist, whose post-Brahmsian compositions are brilliantly tuneful and deserve being revived. After Percy Grainger, Arthur Benjamin (1893-1960) was probably Australia's most successful composer before Peter Sculthorpe. Ian Munro's "Divertissement" is an homage to the French composer Satie - a day spent in his company.
Featured non-Australian music: Schubert
