Pianist Kristian Chong plays great keyboard works of Mozart, Schumann and the world premiere of Seven Chorale Preludes by Australian composer Calvin Bowman.
About Kristian Chong
Kristian Chong is renowned for his exhilarating performances of piano masterworks. The sensitivity, technical brilliance and bold ambition that he brings to his playing are the hallmarks of a great artist. Equally at home as a concerto soloist, chamber musician and recitalist, this concert is a chance to experience the artist performing solo.
About the concert
Mozart’s daring C minor Fantasie starts in blackness and transforms into music of dramatic beauty. It is one of his boldest and most imaginative works. The great Schumann Fantasie is equally poetic. It is an expression of love, creation and passion. Imbued with longing, as if voicing a great sigh, it reveals Schumann’s soul in exquisite, tortured agony and, finally, in noble peace. And in between is a world premiere from renowned composer and musician Calvin Bowman who, for the first time, turns his compositional talents to a form which J.S. Bach espoused – the chorale prelude. These piano miniatures mirror the artsong experience which Bowman focused upon almost exclusively for a quarter of a century.
Praised for his ‘considerable nuance and passion’ (The Age), Kristian is a fitting performer for these complex and beguiling keyboard works.
