Gymea Lilies (2017) by Moya Henderson was commissioned by the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney to honour Professor Yvonne Cossart. Professor Cossart was a trail blazing infectious diseases specialist in the areas of virological research, epidemiology and disease prevention. She was on the Medical Research Council Committee for Vaccination for many years.

Gymea Lilies will be performed by Dr Grace Chan (a former student of Professor Cossart) on the magnificent Great Hall organ and the Sydney University War Memorial Carillon.

Antarctica (2007) by Anna Reid was written on a ship during the composer’s journey home from the icy continent. Originally composed for two treble recorders, Grace Chan has transcribed the work for carillon. Professor Anna Reid was appointed Dean of Sydney Conservatorium in 2016. These Australian carillon works will be performed by as a musical coda to the day’s celebrations and formal carillon recital.

The Great Hall is only accessible to graduating students and their ticketed guests. The carillon can be heard by the public in the Main Quadrangle and University Place Lawns.
