Event Details
Twelve of the brightest young musicians, the 2019 Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows, will perform “Bold Beginnings,” an intriguing program of chamber works and arrangements, for Wyvern Music Forestville at OLGC Catholic Church on Sunday 11th August at 4pm.
A fanfare in the form of Purcell’s Fantasias for brass trio, boldly begins the concert, and concludes with Carl Friedrich Ebers’ arrangement of Beethoven’s First Symphony, following the 19th century custom of publishing chamber arrangements of popular symphonies. Iain Farrington has continued this practice into the 21st Century with his arrangement of Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel Overture. Benjamin Britten’s Sinfonietta is a mini symphony for eleven players and was his first published work, establishing him as a major force in British music. Peggy Polias is a remarkable young Australian composer whose work Street Sketches explores the relationship between popular and classical music.
