Lullabies and dreams, sleep and insomnia are themes that drift through this night-inspired recital of English song. British mezzo-soprano Dame Sarah Connolly makes her Proms recital debut in a programme that combines familiar favourites – Britten’s cycle A Charm of Lullabies and songs by Vaughan Williams and Howells – with world premieres by Mark-Anthony Turnage and Lisa Illean, as well as of two songs Britten initially intended for A Charm of Lullabies.
