Event Details

Now in its fourth year, the Australian Voices series is a celebration of Australian music in which ANAM students present the works of some of the country’s finest composers.

Jessica Fotinos was the first harpist to be awarded a position at ANAM. It was through ANAM’s Artist Director Paul Dean that she met award-winning Australian composer Stuart Greenbaum (b. 1966). When Dean suggested that Fotinos curate a Stuart Greenbaum Australian Voices, she jumped at the chance. While having overt connections to jazz, pop and minimalism, Greenbaum’s music crafts a sense of space and contemplation. “In his touching melodies and gentle, reassuring repetition, we can find refuge form the busyness of the everyday”, explains Fotinos.

Greenbaum has a diverse catalogue of over 160 works including operas, choral, chamber, solo and orchestral. Fotinos choose three pieces that tie together in their creation of space and narrative, taking inspiration from art, poetry and life events. The evening will feature the world premier of Four Finalities for female voice, which was written for the poem of the same name by Ros Baglin.
