The ASO will make history when it gives the Australian premiere of the orchestral version of Brett Dean’s Fire Music. This new work is Dean’s powerful response to the devastating Black Saturday bushfires of 2009 and will be conducted by the composer himself.
“The work was inspired by a combination of experiencing, albeit from the safe proximity of the city, that day's diabolically extreme heat, wind and ultimately devastating stories of death and disaster," says Dean.
Dean will place musicians both on stage and in different areas of the Town Hall in an attempt to conjure in sound, the sense of spread and threat on all sides.
