Event Details

ACACIA return to the Sydney Opera House for their second Utzon Room series with a program featuring two new compositions inspired by Australia’s unique nature and history alongside Beethoven's glorious String Quartet No. 10 in E Flat Major Op.74, ‘The Harp’.

Moya Henderson’s work ‘Kudikynah Cave’ transports you to the lush Tasmanian wilderness of the Franklin River where the composer sought solitude and a closeness to nature. This beautiful piece is dedicated to Dr. Bob Brown for his determination in saving Tasmania’s precious forests.

Nicholas Vines' string quartet ‘The Law of the Tongue’ was inspired by the extraordinary true story of the collaboration between orca whales and men in their hunt for baleen whales in Eden, off the South Coast of NSW. The music symbolises whale song, an Aboriginal corroboree, the orcas’ tail-slapping, a sea shanty, the chase and harpoon and the final betrayal of this unique pact between man and beast.

'Acacia Quartet is superb!' - The Music Trust
'Sometimes words can fail to adequately describe what one witnesses... the Acacia Quartet illustrated each movement with an incredible depth of understanding’ - The Age.
