The music program for the ISCM 2023 World New Music Days in South Africa has been announced.

Earlier this year, the Australian Music Centre submitted a selection of six works to be considered as part of the World New Music Days festival programming. Of this submission, Angus Davison's work Nigel (for medium chamber ensemble) has been selected to represent the Australian Section of ISCM.

Originally commissioned by Omega Ensemble as part of the 2021 CoLAB: Composer Accelerator Program, Nigel tells the story of a bird that fell in love with a statue. The two-movement work is an act of mourning and of celebration, and asks listeners to consider the complex inner lives of animals.

The work will be presented during World New Music Days festival in South Africa, 24 November to 3 December 2023, the first ISCM festival to be held in Africa.
