The work has no program as such, but, as a portrayal of states of mind, the first movement could be construed to be "of the city", the second "of the country" - both with instrusions of monsters of the mind. The third movement is intended as a form of hedonistic "celebration" - a banishment of care through pleasurable pursuits especially dance.
Instrumentation: Flute, oboe, bassoon, bass clarinet, 3 horns in F, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, marimba, solo clarinet in A, strings.
Duration: 35 min.
Difficulty: Advanced — Soloist: professional; orchestra: professional/student.
Contents note: 1st Movement - of the city -- 2nd Movement - of the country -- 3rd Movement - dance.
