Together with In the shadow's light, this forms a work titled Ceremony of the seasons.

Texts are fragments of Chinese poems, from the collection 'Where the sea stands still', by Yang Lian.

Comprises five sections - four movements for soprano and qin and a qin solo entitled 'Xin (heart)', placed between the third and fourth duo movements. The qin solo was composed in 2002
