Work Overview
When I started thinking about this piece I realised that this year marks Felix Mendelssohn's 200th birthday (b. Hamburg, February 3, 1809 - d. November 4, 1847). Considering that I played and liked his Songs Without Words in my childhood piano lessons I thought that I would like to pay tribute to this composer and his music. My next step was to choose from among the 48 delightful pieces in his collection. Once I had chosen six of my favourite Songs Without Words I set out on the journey of getting more and more acquainted with them and of finding out where the inspiration would take me, keeping in mind the instrumentation for which the piece was commissioned: Clarinet in Bb, Cello and Piano. I decided to give each movement a title that would relate to the original title. For example, 'Regrets' became 'No Regrets'.
