Dust : for multiple harps / Christopher Gordon.

Library shelf no. 785.7919/GOR 1 [Available for loan]

Work Overview

The title comes from the life-force that is central to His Dark Materials, Philip Pullman's trilogy of Miltonesque multi-verses, quantum physics, humanism, and failed angels.

Dust is one of a number of attempts to overcome the tyranny of the barline.
The ideal acoustic is that of a church or resonant hall where the notes linger and blend together. Silence is cherished.

A companion piece to Dust is Saltare Solis for eight harps.

Dust can be performed by as many harps as are available.

Each performer plays in their own time, however a common underlying slow pulse should be shared.
