Work Overview
As can be seen from the title, this piece is concerned with wave-like structures, with fluidity of movement, and with parallels between the parts.
The protagonist who sets the waves in motion is the oboe player (the reed instrument). The other instruments closely mirror the oboe and each other, and each instrument occupies its own space, rarely crossing that of another. In fact, the piece is a 4 part canon - a canon being a built-in echo device - in this case a slightly disguised echo. Just as the pitch is not echoed exactly, so the rhythm is either bunched up or spread more widely: intending to evoke parallel, but slightly distorted ripples.
