Work Overview

I started experimenting with manipulated sound in my late 40s, but had to wait till 1955 for this, my first commission in the new medium, which was generally regarded with hostility. The Japanese Fishermen, broadcast on September 30, 1955, was possibly the first ever BBC play with an electronic accompaniment, though there was also a percussion part so it was not entirely electronic.
