Work Overview
Skippy attracted worldwide attention in January 2018 when he
decided to go to the city and hop along lane 8 of the Sydney
Harbour Bridge at 5 am - much to the amazement of motorists. He
made a left turn onto the Cahill Expressway and very aptly came
to rest at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Skippy is now well
and safe and returned to the bush.
Not surprisingly, I have introduced a hopping theme into the duet
- and as I think Skippy is such a heroic wallaby I have made the
motifs simple and uncomplicated to echo the dawn of day.
There are one or two abrupt changes of harmony to mirror Skippy's
progress and the duet ends very quietly as Skippy is extremely
tired by now.
My thanks to John d'Arcy for inspiring me with an idea for the
rhythm in some sections of the duet.
