Work Overview

Sonic Arc was recorded to be played as a loop in the gallery during the collaborative installation Will the real Australia please stand up...a travelogue (UTas 1996). It signified aspects of the journey - shared by the three visual and text artists - through regional Australia. The work was designed to also act as a trope for transformation: at approximately half way through the piece a vocal fragment suggests change through self-reflection so that the sounds following this fragment signify a deeper connection with land: represented by more silence, bird calls and a greater sense of spatiality than in the first section.
