Work Overview
"This is an acoustic walk through the walled old town of Hania Crete, one of the first city states in the world. Konstantin, Anja, Arthur and I wander to Kastelli Hill, past Minoan archaeological sites where the first Linear A and B writing tablets were found. We identify stones re-appropriated during Byzantine, Roman and Ottoman times. Walls bombed and rebuilt. Near the port, the lyra music wafts past the minaretless mosque. Pigeons hole up in the rooves of Turkish mansions behind the synagogue. We return via a maze of carless tiny alleys to the 14th century Venetian walled Sabbionara gate, the site of our collaborative exhibition Listening through the walls, in May in 2016, Hania" -- Ros Bandt.
